Welcome To London Pavement Geology

There is a wealth of high quality rock samples of all types to be seen in the capital, mostly visible to the public from the pavement. A searchable collection is offered here for the benefit of students, amateurs and professionals alike.
Please respect the fact that in many case the geological specimens are somebody else’s property, please only take photographs, after asking permission, wherever possible.

This project was conceived and initially funded by Dave Wallis – a semi-retired Oil & Gas professional. The list of buildings and identifications of the stones therein has been compiled and volunteered to this site by geologist Ruth Siddall from her personal research.

In some locations the density of the geologic examples is such that to be able to separate them as ‘pins’ on the maximum zoom map, they have had to be moved by up to 15-25 metres from the exact required location.
